The following comes from us from one of the coolest, most unique companies today, Something Weird Video. There are many different exploitation films out there and most of them mirror each other in someway. If there would be one thought that is much different from the rest would be blaxsploitation. You have black men and women getting back at the man. Who's the man you ask? Well, just about every racist type in authority. You have them getting back at Police, the KKK, Doctors, mobsters, business men, etc. So if you think you are ready to get into these type of films I have quite the study guide for you. It's called Afros, Macks, and Zodiacs and it's the greatest collection of blaxsploitation trailers that there has ever been, and to top it off it's hosted by Dolemite himself, Rudy Ray Moore!
First off, let me tell you about the trailers on the disc. You will see trailers for the following:
-Blacula
-Monkey Hustle
-The Mack
-Dr. Black & Mr. Hyde
-Dolemite
-Cleopatra Jones
-Foxy Brown
-Ebony, Ivory, and Jade
-Black Belt Jones
-Wattstax
-SuperDude
-Cotton Comes to Harlem
-Trouble Man
-Superfly
-Let's Do it Again
-Which Way is Up?
-Black Caesar
-Hell up in Harlem
-Cool Breeze
-The Human Tornado
-Disco Godfather
-Sheba Baby
-Black Mama, White Mama
-Cleopatra Jones and the Casino of Gold
-Scream Blacula Scream
-Soul to Soul
-That Man Bolt
-The Soul of Nigger Charley
-Across 110th Street
-The Big Bird Cage
-Book of Numbers
-Trick Baby
-Truck Turner
Just to give you the low down on the trailers, they really do a great job of getting in every one that is influential and important. You have comedic ones (Dolemite, Cotton Comes to Harlem), crime flicks (Black Caesar, Hell up in Harlem), slave movies (The Soul of Nigger Charley), concert movies (Wattstax), and much much more. So there you have it. Pretty impressive huh? Now if that's not the greatest compilation of Blaxsploitation trailers ever, then I don't know what is. All of this wrapped up with skits of Rudy Ray Moore doing the best jive talk this side of Detroit. It makes for one hell of an entertaining DVD, and to top it all off….they're not remastered. These are dirty, ugly trailers the way they were intended to be seen! Watch them unfold on the screen the same way that they used to playing at your local 42nd street theatres years ago. Not only that but I really have to commend the people at Something Weird that put this together. It's easily the most complete collection of blaxsploitation trailers that I've ever seen. While watching it I was thinking to myself of what needed to be added, and outside of maybe the Shaft series, and the Fred Williamson film "Boss Nigger" there really weren't that many excluded. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this DVD to anyone who is a fan of blaxsplitation flicks as well as someone who is just looking to get into these types of film. An overall great time DVD that's actually a perfect thing to play the background at parties too!
