Alien Apocalypse (2005)

 Photobucket

Astronaut Dr. Ivan Hood (Bruce Campbell, Army of Darkness) returns to earth after being cryogenically frozen in outer space for 40 years. Upon return, Dr. Hood and his crew find that the planet they once called home has been evaded by giant alien termites and that the humans are now slaves working in sawmills for the termites.

He and his crew are captured and brought to the mill to work as slaves. Once they arrive, they are brought into a giant wooden termite mound to meet with the leader. The leader informs them that he is in charge and that they are to work in silence. Captain Chuck Burkes refuses the orders and in return has his head bitten off(pretty friggn cool).

After talking with other slaves, the good doctor find out that the giant mites are on earth to eat the wood and send wood back to their planet(which has no wood). The slaves are to stack wood all day long and if you are caught trying to escape you lose a finger. After your fingers are all gone and you can’t work, they bite your head off .It isn’t long before Dr. Hood and Kelly(Renee O’Connor, Xena) decide that they have to escape.

During the escape, Dr. Hood manages to kill one of the mites and he escapes into the woods with Kelly and Alex(young slave boy). He is to makes his way into the mountains finding as many free humans as possible to return and battle the mites.

My first impression of the move was "what the fuck", but as I watched it I couldn’t put the remote down. It was sort of like Planet of the Apes but with termites. The acting was pretty shitty but that made it good. It was like "no budget, alien Brave Heart, meets Robin Hood :Men in Tights. The actors wore like medieval rags as clothes and they had beards and hair that looked like glued on fabric or some shit. And most of the characters seemed to have almost a joking corniness about them.

My advice to you: if you want to enjoy this one, don’t go into it thinking that it is a serious alien movie. Watch it for what it is, SCI FI network entertainment. The termites are both CGI and robotic. They are really cool when they look real and when they are CGI they aren’t that bad. I ‘ll watch it again with a few friends and a few beers.
