This
time around Brandon the Killer goes out in his car to stalk his latest
victim. He instantly notices a short but attractive female. Brandon
is not shy so he gets out the car with his camera on record and begins
his routine. Brandon follows the girl and converses with her. The conversation
isn’t important as it is nothing but the mundane back and forth between
two people that are about to hook up. She does seem put off by the fact
that Brandon is taping their encounter but she naively believes his
excuse. Brandon mentions that he likes to tape his experiences during
all of his road trips because he’ll always get to keep his memories.
After he walks her home, she tells him to go get his car and promises
him he won’t forget her.
Right
away when they get into Brandon’s place he begins his heavy petting
and groping but she plays hard to get. Slowly from this moment he gets
uglier and uglier while still managing to make his victim believe he’s
just kidding. It seems his ladyfriend likes to get choked and do the
rough stuff. The one thing she doesn’t like is Brandon pressing his
hand hard all over her face. She mentions a number of time for him to
stop and he keeps doing it. Eventually he pisses her off to the point
where she can’t take it anymore. She leaves and he chases but not
in a sinister way. He tries to make her believe that his nasty side
wasn’t genuine and that he was just new at the rougher kind of sex.
He didn’t just put her hands in her face. He actually spit on her
a number of times and that made her get out of dodge. Does he get her
back to his place? Does she survive?
I
won’t say the scenario is as believable as the first time around.
In the first film, the girls age made the film believable and shocking
as her age got smaller in numbers. In this film the girl seemed like
she may have been around the block. Sure she was flirtatious and she
did tolerate a little too much before taking off, but she grown and
she had an understanding of all the situations she was in. The girl
in the first film may have been confused with all the sexual stuff being
that she was inexperienced. The new girl seemed put off a number of
times and had the opportunity to leave. Nothing really bothered me other
than the fact that this 18-19 year old girl was just as dumb as the
young girl when it came to her decision to go back to Brandon’s place.
These
films aren’t gory but are repulsive. Shane Ryan takes a chance everytime
he makes these shoestring budget snuff porns. He is shooting fake snuff
films that’s will disturb most well adjusted people. I am not shocked
because I understand these kind of films but the word shocking still
defines this film. Watching Brandon constantly grope his victim is just
such a turn off. Never is the porn in this film sexy. I am a man, and
I also have an understanding that this film will sell do to the title.
Perverts, scumbags, pedophiles and all types of society rejects will
be into this film for the title alone. A lot of lonely men might think
this film is jack off material but I gotta say it is not sexy at all.
Ryan creates a character that doesn’t play romance. He is constantly
groping, poking and trying to touch his victims asshole (No joke). The
film does have oral sex, penetration, spitting, choking and lots of
verbal abuse. It’s no fun but its interesting to be repulsed knowing
that its pretend and done on a lower budget than mostly any movie period.
Kai
Lanette was great but she was not the heroine type that the back of
the DVD box art lead me to believe. She was tiny, gullable and she was
into half of the physical abuse the Brandon character dished out to
her. Anyhow she seemed natural as the party gal type and she did react
when Brandon pushed to far. I guess her character just forgave him to
easily and eventually she paid for it.
There
are two versions of this Cinema Epoch release. Both the “Snuff”
version and “The Movie” version are included in the package. The
movie has some post production specks and other trippie imagery. There’s
also assorted scenes of Brandon and his past victims spliced out throughout
the film. The snuff version is what feels more appropriate for what
Shane Ryan was trying to accomplish. He wants the film to feel like
a real snuff film. The “snuff” version for his sequel is more authentic
than the “Movie” version and his original film. The longer I am
a horror fan, the easier it is to get desensitized to this kind of subject
matter. Bottom line is that most people would not respond well to this
movie. A lot of people might find the simple human interaction tedious.
I am sure Shane Ryan will be considered a smut peddler that likes to
get his dick sucked on video.
The bottom line is that his films are effective exploitation. His idea isn’t as fresh as the first time around but the killer is just as nasty if not nastier. The ending of his last film was stark but simple. Simplicity is the game again but stark is not the word for the feeling. Brandon does the most defiling act a human being can do. I don’t know whether to cheer Shane Ryan or to not support his films. Sometimes I believe he is a scumbag. But that’s his point. He is doing all of this with no budget. I am sure he’ll keep making these films as long as they’re profitable. He should move on like Fred Vogel moved on from his August Underground Series. I have a feeling that Shane Ryan doesn’t have a talented special effects team or a love for the horror genre that Fred Vogel has. Still I think these films have a certain flare to them that makes the faux snuff genre interesting. This film will make girls think twice about one night stands and it captures the anger of a maniac pretty damn good. Shane Ryan plays a subtle scumbag. Its so hard to explain how nasty his character is. He hardly raises his voice. He’s just a rude, women hating , manipulator. That’s what makes his goreless but porn laced films work. Brandon the Killer treats women like shit and it aint fun. For some reason they put up with him in the films and he executes them. The age revelation in the original and what he accomplished with such a tiny budget made me appreciate the first one so much. This film carries on the ugliness but the concept is “You know the drill”. Still I recommend the series….so far.
