With wanting to give too much
away about the plot, Bloody Reunion is about a group of twenty something’s
that journey out to the country to visit their old school teacher. The
teacher is now confined to a wheelchair and is looked after by another
of her former students, as well as another much quieter former student
that helps out around the place.
Initially everyone is happy
to see one another and to catch up with what they have been up to over
the past few years. Before long though old wounds open up, with teacher
seemingly being the cause of many of them. Tempers flare and threats
are made, and the once happy atmosphere takes a decidedly downbeat turn.
Then the murders start, not
your cut and dry stab ‘em in the eye Jason style murders though, no
this killer likes to make his victims really suffer. A couple of these
scenes are guaranteed to make you squirm in your seat as the sadistic
killer really turns the screw. Bloody Reunion definitely contains some
of the most vicious death scenes I have seen in quite some time.
Aside from the brutality of
the movie the director keeps us guessing with plenty of twists and turns,
and the odd slap around the face with his trusty red herring. Chances
are though that you will guess the killer before the final reveal, yet
even if you do there will still be plenty to keep you guessing and quite
a bit you won’t see coming.
The casting here, although
pretty good by all accounts, was a little on the stereotypical side;
the quiet one, the joker, the slutty one and so on. Fortunately decent
performances from all and a solid script save it from being too predictable.
The only slight drawback for
me being that the story loses a little pace towards the end. You think
it is just about finished when in actual fact there is a whole scene
or two still to go. This is only minor though as they do add some more
depth to the plot. Overall if you like Asian horror
and slasher flicks you should get a kick out of this nasty little movie.
