Carter Stevens Teenage Twins Collection - The Early Films of Carter Stevens Vol 2. 1976-1977 (2010)
When it comes to the world of adult films there isn’t anyone quite like Carter Stevens. Stevens is one of the few people in the history of the adult film industry to wear all of the hats that he has. Stevens is an AVN Hall of Fame member for good reason considering he directed, acted, edited and did much more on a lot of adult films. This collection features three of his early films that he directed and they are really something to see. In this set you have two of his 1976 efforts with “Rollerbabies” and “Teenage Twins” as well as his groundbreaking 1977 film “Punk Rock”. This collection is completely approved by director Carter Stevens and even features his own personal commentary track as well. Also the folks at After Hours Cinema have restored the films from their only existing film elements for a job well done. Now lets get down to business, shall we?
First up in this collection I have to talk about Stevens Sci-Fi porno “Rollerbabies” which is one of the most unique and original adult films I’ve ever seen. Stevens one day found him auditioning an actress who was proficient in the 70s sport of Rollerderby, which sent Stevens mind into overdrive. He thought of the success that Rollerball had scene and wanted to do something similar in the adult genre. Before you know it he had made an adult film like no other with “Rollerbabies”. The story of the film is set in a society in which sex had been outlawed because of the massive overpopulation. This has resulted in government television that’s basically porn to be used as a masterbatory aid. Television exec Sherman Frobish who has the #1 show in the land, the super popular Fuck and Suck Show comes up with the idea of a competitive sex game where contestants are awarded points while having sex and racing around on roller skates. If you’re thinking this is one of the strangest porno’s you’ve ever heard of, then you really need to see this one.
Stevens film “Teenage Twins” was more of a gimmick that one would think, but it’s basically an adult film based around incest. The film features two twins that get as involved with each other as you would expect, only the thing is that they were actually real twins who were actually related. One day after speaking with the legendary adult actress Annie Sprinkle, Stevens was introduced to a brunette that hadn’t impressed him very much. But that changed the minute she mentioned to him that she also had a twin sister that might also want to work in the adult industry. Stevens being the resourceful director of smut that he is had the idea bulb turn on in his head and the next thing you know, “Teenage Twins” was born Personally I found “Teenage Twins” to be pretty funny considering the type of material that was being presented. This film would also mark the first collaboration with Richard Jacoma who was well known as a writer for Al Goldstein’s Screw Magazine under the name Al Hazard. The movie features the two twins who’s father has just found the Necronomicon, which results in tons of rituals that basically ensure that everyone screws everyone, including the sisters getting it on themselves
Although last but not least is the X-rated version of Stevens groundbreaking adult flick “Punk Rock”. In the 1970s many people realize that New York City was becoming quite the Mecca for Punk Rock with CBGB’s and Max’s Kansas City being quite the famous hangouts. Carter was no exception to this has he at one point was a regular at Max’s himself. Although I’m sure you think “Punk Rock” is a music fueled sex romp, that wouldn’t be further from the case. The movie is actually a detective styled drama with Wade Nichols playing private eye Jimmy Dillinger who rescued a runaway from the massage parlor that she was being forced to work in. From there we get a murder mystery style of story with Jimmy trying to “nail” exactly what is going on. You also have porn legend Bobby Astyr show up as a sleazy operator of a massage parlor which is worth the price of admission alone.
Overall I have to HIGHLY RECOMMEND this collection to anyone who has an interest in the world of old school adult films. After Hours did a wonderful job here restoring these films and preserving them for people like me. Three movies all in one set packs quite the punch and considering Stevens had such a prolific directing career I have to say that you’d be hard pressed to find three better features of his to put on any collection. Kudos to those at After Hours and personally I can’t wait to see what else they have up their sleeve in the future.
