Don’t go in the house is one of those movies that is kind of hard to pin-point what exactly the kind of horror film it is. The story follows a troubled young man named Donny Kohler who was abused by his mother growing up. When Donny was bad. Donny’s mother would hold his bare arms over a stove in an effort to burn out the demon inside of him. Well all this takes a toll as Donny grows up to become a psychopath that enjoys burning women alive with a flame thrower in his basement. As enjoyable as that might sound there is so much more to this movie that sets it apart from the slew of early 80's horror films to crash mom and pop’s video stores. There is a under-lying theme that child abuse can contribute to people becoming mass murders. That’s right people, it takes a subject matter that not a lot of people like to look in the face and it throws it right into the mix with this erie, atmospheric horror film that at some points feels like a re-tread of Psycho. I don’t want to give much more away but let’s just say that just because someone is dead in real life. I guess that doesn’t stop them from haunting your mind. Great atmosphere, groovy soundtrack and an over all entertaining premise gets a thumbs up from me. Fans of early 80's need to track this down. Highly recommended.
