Wes is afraid of losing his virginity while
at the same time being eager. His closet pedophile neighbor Dusty is
a writer for a sexual publication called Dear Pillow. Dusty writes from
a woman’s perspective and its darkly amusing that there is an idiot
that jacks off to one of his writings in the opening sequence. Too add
to the constant sexual tension of the complex is the hot for being over
the hill Lorna (Viviane Vives). Lorna is the apartment building manager
that seems to be a little in to her 17 year old neighbor Wes.
Wes
is having problems with his father, is trying to become the next writer
from Dear Pillow, he spends most of his time with a gay old fart and
has a chance to bang Lorna on his 18th birthday. Their collective goal
is to make a porn film that will eventually be the sole property of
Dusty's ex porno biz cohort Nick. The most awkward scene in the movie
involves Lorna confronting Wes about spying on her. She found out
because Dusty told her that Wes tapped her phone sex sessions with
audio equipment that picks up her signals. Even Wes’s father has his
own aggressive sexual fantasies.
Wes
goes through a lot but the movie is never ultra sleazy and while Dusty
is a scumbag, anyone could watch this film as it wasn’t something
pedophiles can get off to. The last scene that involves all three in
a pornographic scene is kind of a let down. Not because I wanted
it to be explicit or anything like that. The segment was rather confusing
and one of the characters react a way I didn’t expect a certain character
too.
Rusty
Kelly does a great job as Wes. He gives his character authenticity and
I thought he did a good job portraying a sexually frustrated and
confused character. He had to play a kid that was nothing like his more
aggressive father. His father actually tried to take him to a strip
club on his 18th birthday after thinking his son was engaging in sexual
activities with the creepy neighbor. Gary Chason gives a real innocent
performance and out of all the characters he was the most mysterious
while being the most outspoken. Dusty was Wes's best friend in a sense
but he is an old filthy fuck film making mother fucker.
The
problem with the film is that it felt anticlimactic by the ending. I
was interested in all the characters and in all honestly this film was
totally original. Wes and Dusty had a relationship that was strictly
sexual but in a conversational context. Dusty also kind of lured Wes
over with daily offerings of beer so he isn't as peachy as I'm making him sound. There is no doubt that Dusty is attracted
to Wes but I don’t feel that this is the typical sexual predator kind
of independent movie. All of the characters sexual fantasies and perversions
are exposed. Well Wes is really just trying to lose is virginity and
figure out who he is. Wes just isn’t into bondage because his father
is. How Emo!
The
characters were interesting but overall I was only entertained because
the subject matter was fresh but the ending wasn’t and enjoyable.
The actors all came off as authentic because no one was over the top.
This movie felt like a slice of life in a culture I am not to familiar
with. Wes was around some strange situations because he allowed himself
to be and his father warned him not to. This movie isn’t brutal pornography
or a kiddie porn fest. While being captivated by the strange relationships
I was excited to see where the film went. I just didn’t quite grasp
what they were going for with the ending............ I am going to watch this ending again.
Okay I just watched it again. The ending is better than I thought on a
second viewing and I understand what they were going for. It seems like
Wes becomes a lot like his lonely teacher. Still the intense moment
during the trio porn caught me off guard which is not a bad thing now
that I comprehend the situation more.
I can’t categorize this movie with anything which makes it an original
piece. Still I can’t go out of my way and say that its shocking or the
most sexually influential film I’ve ever seen. It’s a film that relies
on its dialogue and while its delivered believably I just don’t find
the entire situation with the three characters to be believable. Still
I did get a kick out of watching a the landlord force Wes to unleash
his sexual desires which is to cum in her eyes to make himself feel
imperial! He really says something along those lines. I don't dislike
the film but I can't say its an important film for everyone to see. If
you're interested in films that deal with some taboo sexual topics, you
might enjoy this.
