France, August 1944

    Out on a routine patrol, a squad from the "Big Red 1"stumbles across a crash site. Lt Schmidt(Jon Osbeck) sends two of his men to clear the wreckage. When they get there, they run into a hulked up Nazi zombie. They hit it with everything they have. After taking a barrage of gun fire, it finally goes down from a .45 shot to the head.

    LT. Schmidt wrote every thing that went down that night in his after action report. Being that he was the only officer to tell what he saw, he was labeled as a nut job and sent to the " Grey Bar Unit"(misfits, and criminals). They are to parachute behind enemy lines on a suicide mission to destroy a weapons facility. If they make it back alive, they will be re-assigned back to their old unit.

    On the way to the DZ, their plane was hit by ground fire and the unit was scattered all over occupied France. The Captain decided that they would complete the mission with who they had, hoping to find more men along the way.

    They stumble across a bunker with an American Soldier in it. He is in shock, huddled in the corner shaking. When they ask what was wrong, he tells them a story of a werewolf creature that killed a whole German Unit by itself. The soldiers hold up in a farm house for the night. While there, the Captain rapes and kills a French woman, a page right out of Casualties of War w/ Sean Penn. The next night at a campfire, the misfits are attacked by the same werewolf creature which is also the farm girls brother. A few men are lost and Sgt. Gary is bitten, turning him into a wolf creature.

    Back at HQ, Lt. Schmidt is being briefed and is told that a few other squads have had run ins with these Nazi super soldiers and that he is being recruited by the OSS.(The Office of Strategic Services was a United States intelligence agency formed during WWII. It was the wartime intelligence agency and was the predecessor to the Central Intelligence Agency or the CIA.). He is to hook up with Captain Russo and four of his best men to go on a mission to find and destroy the lab where a German Doctor named Heinrich Schaltur is conducting these experiments to make super soldiers.

    On rout to the lab they come across a krout running out of the wood screaming " help me, monster, help me , monster" and not to far behind him was another hulked up zombie Nazi. Lt. Schmidt tells them to aim for the head dropping the beast. Schmidt is a bonafide zombie hunter. They hold up in an old church for the night. Schmidt and Russo recon the lab and notice there are only two guards on patrol. They return and get some shut eye to prepare for their assault the following morning.

    As they approach the blown out building where the lab is being housed, Russo has his sniper take out the two guards to start the assault. After a brief shoot out, they find the krout doctor but it is too late he has already injected himself with the serum and is morphing before there eyes, he must be stopped. The only way to beat him is to be him.

    Horrors of War is a blast. It’s good to see a war/horror film with out all of the Hollywood bells and whistles. Very little CGI was used and that is a plus for me because it can sometimes ruin a film. The hulked-up Nazi’s Zombies were the shit. I’d put this in a category with R-point, The Bunker and Dog Soldiers. For those who have yet to see this film, make sure to watch the credits because after the credits there is like 2-3 more minuts of movie(jumps to 6monthes later).
