Shortly after the death of their mother Jack (Jesse Metcalfe) and Lilly's( Kiele Sanchez) life would be changed forever. Feeling like there was nothing left to live for, Lilly decided to try and take her own life. After numerous failed attempts, Jack has no choice but to commit her to the Middleton Psychiatric Institute.
As time went by, Jack decides to try and get her released under the care of their family doctor but little did he know that when she was committed, she became a prisoner of the institute. Jack calls to set up a visit with Lilly and they tell him that it is impossible. He figures the only way to get her out of there is to get himself committed and then break the both of them out...... (sounds like tv's prison break but mentally challenged)
When Jack is found wondering through the local park bloody and talking to himself, he is restrained, sedated and brought to MPI for a psychic evaluation. After determining that the wounds were self-inflicted, they commit him and label him nuts. As time goes by, he begins to see that things just weren't right with MPI. The way the patients were acting, the weirdness of the staff and the fact that the "tough guy" orderly is porking a nympho patient and using the only half sain one there to steal him pills.
Not long after Jack finds Lilly, she tells him that the good doctor Gianetti( Peter Stormare) has been conducting experiments on the patients in his lab. The tests are for an experimental drug called orpheum that in the long run turns the patients into meat craving cannibals. I don't want to call them zombies because they don't move or moan like your traditional zombies do but if they bite you, you turn into one of them. They move and talk like your run of the mill normal person, but feast on flesh like zombies.
Insanitaruim is loaded with action and gore from the beginning to end. Nut houses have a reputation for being white, every room every hall. By the end of the day MPI was painted blood red from ceiling to floor. It even comes along with a bootleg version of hannibal lector and a caged freak named Loomis that hyper extends a nursed arm until it breaks out of the backside. It even comes along wit a dude that rips a cats head off on camera and drinks its blood...
