Midnight Blue Collection: Porn Stars of the 80s (2009)
It’s no secret that Blue Underground is one of my favorite DVD companies out there, mainly due to the amount of most own titles in their collection. They have a great array of cult films in their catalog that fans like me go nuts over. But one of the more surprising things to me over the years were their releases of the first five volumes of the Midnight Blue Collection. I’ve reviewed all five for Bloodtype and found them all to be incredibly interesting. So you can imagine how excited I was when I heard that there were two more volumes on the way! Volume 2 of the collection was titled “Porn Stars of the 70s” which featured the cream of the crop of 70s porn actors being interviewed by Al Goldstein and the Midnight Blue crew. Now we have a follow up on that with the release of “Midnight Blue Collection: Porn Stars of the 80s”.
“Porn Stars of the 80s” features interviews with the biggest and best porn stars of the 1980s including Vanessa Del Rio, Ron Jeremy, Annette Haven, Veronica Hart, Nina Hartley, Desiree Cousteau, Krista Lane, Tiffany Clark, Samantha Fox, Paul Thomas, John Leslie and more. The interviews are candid as usual and you really get a great insight of the people who were the top stars of that generation of adult films. Not only that but you get your usual Midnight Blue hilarity with over the top skits as well as they typical advertisements on the show for escort services and phone sex lines.
Just like the volumes before it this one really shines as an interesting DVD for fans of adult films. Even if you’re not a big fan you can get something out of this one too. There is enough stuff on here to keep you laughing your ass off, but at the same time it’s really a crash course for the adult industry. Midnight Blue talked to just about every major adult star of the era and if you are unfamiliar with the era, this is really a great place to start. You can find the best films that these folks did, from their own personal recommendations as well as what it’s like for them to work in the industry too. There is no holding back either as every interview on here is pretty no holds barred without any subject being too taboo.
Something else that I’ve really come to enjoy about the series is the running “trivia track” feature that is on the discs. It’s basically a version of VH1's “Pop Up Video” but with facts about the actors and adult industry that really pull out some interesting facts. This to me gives the disc added value as you will get more out of it with repeated viewings. Also on this disc there is a great feature of Al Goldstein on the Wally George talk show that has to be seen to be believed.
Overall this is another stellar edition of the Midnight Blue Collection that is a must own for fans of adult cinema or if you really enjoyed the past releases as well. It’s a rare thing to have this available on DVD and thankfully a wonderful company like Blue Underground worked on it and released it. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
