"Looks like jism, with a kidney condition"

Pam Grier is singing in a lounge with the melodious sounds of Sid Haig's guitar backing her up. All of a sudden, they smash the guitar which contains a gun and the stick-up is on. They make their getaway and take lovely Terry (Anitra Ford) with them. She asks Django (Haig) what he wants with her, and the reply: "I'm gonna rape ya, what the hell you think I want?" Of course, with the fuzz on their trail and closing in quickly, it'll have to wait. Django moves out, leaving Terry to the cops- as an accomplice. She pleads to no avail.

Sid has one of the funniest roles in his career. He's a real laid back revolutionary and Pam is his squeeze. When they reunite after the opening sequence, He and Pam begin to tussle which leads to a shanty rockin' good time.

So, Terry, the Prime Ministers girl, is in the hoosegow and will be joined by the likes of Blossom (Grier). And of course there's going to be escape talk.

The Big Bird Cage is a big woman powered press that extracts sugar from sugar cane. A couple of the girls, Carol Speed and Karen McKevic display the power of the menacing machine and it's not a pretty sight.

Vic Diaz, who I think really kind of steals the show, plays homosexual head guard, Rocco. Not only does he swing that way, but so does his right hand man- how gay does all that sound? In the end though, Rocco will feel what it's like to be with a woman- whether he wants to or not. That's the way I like it! Rocco and his boy slap fight over the charms of boy-toy Django. Funny, funny stuff.

I feel like I give too much away, too often. so I'm going to leave it right there. Check it out.

There are no male guards in this movie, which I prefer...even though I thought Vic Diaz had a very funny part in Big Bird Cage.

There is no set-up to how Collier (Judy Brown) or Grear (!) (Pam Grier) get put in prison. Our story just begins there. Sid Haig plays Harry. Harry delivers the goods- fruit and such (as well as the Otego Especi-al to a prison guard) - to the girls, but really wants an opportunity to shine his bone.

There are scenes of the girls being tied down and tortured for information, non-graphic of course, all as a mysterious figure in a fencing uniform looks on.

Once again we get my second favorite type of rape...female on male. Sexy, sexy....Pam's main girl in the cell is hooked on the heroin powder, and Pam takes care of her well. Alcott (Roberta Collins) is Grears main nemesis and they fight it out for Collier. There's a food fight and early on one cellmate tries to set another on fire. Yikes!

Another fine WIP flick brought to us by the man, Jack Hill.

Black Mama, White Mama

We start with a Porky's style voyeurism of the prisoners taking a shower, by the co-head matron. Or warden, I'm not exactly sure what she is.  An early opportunity for our girl Pam Grier a.k.a Lee Daniels, to go lez-bean with the same woman only leads to hard labor when Pammy refuses.

Punishment includes being stripped naked, put inside a tall steel box which is then suspended, and bake for a day out in the hot sun. The girls, Black Mama Lee and White Mama Karen (Margaret Markov) escape and are on the run shackled together and needing to go in different directions. Needless to say, they encounter their fair share of problems along the way.

Sid Haig plays Ruben, an island cowboy enlisted to help local authorities track down the escapees. In a diversionary tactic, Karen uses her panties to throw the dogs off her 'scent', so to speak.

As much as I like the genre, this one doesn't come highly recommended by me. I'd go for the other two, if you’re so inclined.
