The Perfect Witness (2007)

Photobucket

Wes Bentley ( P2) plays amateur film maker Mickey Gravatski in this psychological thriller about the life of serial killer James Lemac (Mark Borkowski, Writer). Mickey is a recovering addict who has been trying to stay sober from drugs and alcohol for the past few months. For some time now he has been staying up days and nights at a time tracking Lemac's every move hoping to catch his big break.

One night while tailing Lamac, he keeps his camera rolling and captures the murder of a young female in a back alley. Just as Lemac is finished stabbing his victim, he spots Mickey hiding behind a dumpster and gives chase. Narrowly escaping the killers blade, Mickey heads back to make a back-up copy of the tape. Now he has Lemac right where he wants him, or so he thinks.

When everything is in place, Mickey propositions Lemac. He informs him of the tape and threatens to turn it over to the cops unless he agrees to let Mickey film him for a documentary about a serial killer. He tells Lemac that the only way the cops will see the tape is if he gets captured. Left without a choice, Lemac agrees to the deal.

It isn't long before Lemac changes the rules by kidnaping Mickey's mom. Now Mickey must play by Lemac's rules. He forces the young film maker to participate in his next homicide. You start to notice Mickey slowly falling off the wagon and then bam... he shoots up right in front of your eyes. This cat and mouse game goes on until the both snap.

Wes Bentley plays the perfect creep with a camera(American Beauty, The Perfect Witness), and Writer Mark Borkowski killed it (no pun) as serial killer a James Lemac. Before this film, I didn't know who Borkowski was, but now I'll be looking for more of his work. The only thing that threw me for a loop in the entire movie was the fact that it was about a serial killer but they never showed the police investigating the murders. The only cop in the movie was besides the ones in the station was Officer Murphy(Kenny Johnson, The Shield) and he just so happened to be driving by when Mickey and Lemac are arguing in the street. Other than that the movie rocked.
