He spent the next 7 years of his life in a cell between two men(chess master, master con) who would communicate through the passing of books. In those books they would talk via "the formula" and hand written chess moves. In passing, Jake would intercept the books and study the formula. The formula was said to be the ultimate con, it is said to work on anything it is used on.
The 3 neighbors made an agreement that they would all leave together, but when Jake awoke one morning the other two were gone. He spent the last two years of his bid mastering the formula and becoming a wiz a chess.
Now out of prison, Jake puts "the formula" to work making a nice fortune for himself and preparing for the day when he will see Dorothy Macha again. Arriving at Macha's casino, Jake challenges him to a game of chance. Macha accepts the challenge to avoid being embarrassed in front of everybody. With the flip of a poker chip, Jake wins a huge sum of money which embarrasses Macha anyway. As Jake and his crew leave the casino, Dorothy advises his right hand man French Paul to make Jake disappear.
When a failed hit attempt leaves Jake's crew dead, a man named Zach(Vincent Pastore) arrives just in time to save his life. Zach takes Jake to meet his business partner Avi (Andre Benjamin). They make him an offer that he doesn't like but can't refuse. They will protect him from Macha but he has to give them all of his money for their lone shark business.
As time goes on Jake is told that he has a blood disorder that will claim his life in three days. Jake takes the sharks offer all along believing that this is just a con and that he will figure it out. As the voices in Jakes head start to talk, they help him remember things from the past that he might have over looked.
"Revolver" is a mental game of cat and mouse. Writer and Director Guy Ritchie (Snatch; Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels) tangles ideas of Numerology and Kabbalik references together to create the ultimate con that will leave you thinking for days. This all star cast has perfect onscreen chemistry. Revolver even inspired me to give chess shot.
