As Meghan Eastman (Gail O'Grady, American Dreams) prepares to start a new job, her and her husband Carter decide that it is time to hire a live-in babysitter to look after their two children Casey and Max.
In a bind, the Eastman's turn to the internet in search for the perfect sitter. In no time at all, the come across a recent college grade named Abby Reed (Mariana Klaveno) who takes to the children from day one. Abby hits the ground running, taking the kids to and from school, helping them with their homework, and even cooking dinner for the family. As time passes and Abby spends more time with the children she starts to envision Mehgan out of the picture and herself together with Carter.
When Carter closes a big case with his firm, they decide to throw a dinner party and invite all their friends. Seeing that they have no time to organize it, Abby offers to take over the party (trying to win over Carter)because she knows how much it means to him.
The day of the party comes and everything is going great until it unexpectedly rains on the party, Abby's party, Abby's party that she organized for Carter. As the rain falls and everyone bails and goes inside, Abby is left crying in the back yard because Carter wasn't giving her the attention she wanted from him. When his pervert best friend Tate tries to take advantage of Abby he comes up missing and his body is found in his car in the lake.
With Tate's tragic death and the Eastmans having to I.D. his body, their nosey neighbor Mel starts digging around on the internet looking for any dirt she can find on the family's new sitter. When Abby hers the concerned message that Mel leaves on the Eastmans answering machine, she decides to go and pay her a visit. As Mehgan returns from an afternoon of shopping, she heads over to Mel's to see what she wanted and finds her dead in the bath tub apparently electrocuted when her radio fell into the water.
After the funeral, Mehgan's best friend Shawna finds out the truth about "Abby Reed" but before she can inform the Eastmans, Abby's plan for Mehgan and the rest of the family was already in progress. Will Shawna become the next fly stuck in Abby's giant web of death...
The Sitter in my opinion is a TV version of "The Hand That Rocks The Cradle" but with a different back story and motive. The movie itself wasn't all that great but the acting on the other hand was pretty good. Mariana Klaveno played a perfect, hot, psycho bitch and Gail O'Grady was great as an insecure housewife who I felt needed a good ass kick'n. My favorite part of the movie is when you first see that "Abby" is nutts. She tells the father of the school bully that if he picks on Max again she would skin him like a rabbit. If you are interested in seeing it and can't find it, it is also titled "While the Children Sleep".
