I've been into movies of all genres since i was young boy growing up in Pittsburgh. Little did i know that 4 years before i was born in 1981 that George A. Romero made one of my favorite horror flick "Martin" two towns away from my native Turtle Creek in  Braddock. I feel a lot of movies today don't have the reality cinema in the 70's had. The 70's have had some of the most important movies ever such as "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" "The Last House on the Left" and "I Spit on Your Grave". Before i seen any of these horror classics i discovered in my late teens i was watching movies like "Deer Hunter", "Dog Day Afternoon" and "Scarecrow". Movies like this seemed to disappear from the multiplexes so i wanted to watch something either fun or contraversial. I liked what the horror genre was offering in theatres and on DVD. Companies like Synapse, Anchor Bay, Blue Underground etc. have made it easy for me to discover older films in my non stop quest for horror/exploitation entertainment. My favorite post millenium films are "May" and  "The Devils Rejects" and yes i do love the Saw films that many horror elitists seem to loathe. My goal in life is to sit through every exploitation film until i find one that's better than "Thriller: A Cruel Picture".

Drinking was getting old and my job was becoming an empty and miserable daily experience for me so i decided that me and my horror loving friends should get together on a project. After all my band Period Blood was a failure and my rap career  still hasn't blossomed although i am the illest MC to ever walk the suburbs of Turtle Creek, Pa.

One day i was throwing around an idea to Ed Demko about starting a magazine or a newsletter and he was obviously enthusiastic about it because he is a huge horror fan. We both agreed that the internet was an easier and smarter choice because it's more simple to spread the word on the web than on the street. I came up with the name Bloodtype because it sounded damn good mixing the Blood i love to see on screen and Type for the reviews and articles we type on our keyboards. I couldn't call the site Bloodtype.com because that domain name was obviously taken so i thought about calling it Bloodytype.com but Ed wisely told me to keep the word Bloodtype and just add Online and here we are. Our goal is just to write reviews on horror and keep everyone informed with news updates, articles and interviews.

We are genre fans that are proud to be a part of the horror community and will continue to cover this incredible genre forever. I still jump at the movies and i love when a DVD release surprises the shit out of me. Some people like to play basketball and some idiots like to watch Bill O'Reilly. I like to sit down and be entertained by the best damn genre period...Horror!

Hey gang the name is John “El Juan” Shatzer and I review horror movies, or at least I try to!  I’ve been a huge fan of the horror genre ever since I was a kid.  Most of my earliest memories are of sitting down in front of the television on a Friday night or Saturday afternoon and watching whatever films the local horror hosts were playing.    Since I grew up here in Ohio that would be Hoolihan and Big Chuck (later Big Chuck and Lil’ Jon) on Friday nights and Superhost on Saturdays.  This was back in the day before home video (yes I old enough remember the day when phones had rotary dials and no one had VCRs!) when movies were affordable and available for these shows.  I remember watching the old universal films like Frankenstein and the Mummy, as well as tons of the B-movies from the 50s and 60s.  Don’t get me wrong I love having these movies in my collection so I can watch them whenever I want.  I just miss the days when my family, and then later my friends and I, would plan our weekend around staying up to catch the late show.  I suppose these memories are why all of those black and white cheesy films of the 40s, 50s, and 60s are near and dear to me.

So upon what do I base my reviews?  I have one very basic and simple rule by which I judge all films, not just horror.  Don’t be boring!  If a movie can catch my attention and engage me then I’m going to enjoy watching it.  This explains why I really like some truly awful films.  If the acting, directing, story, or special effects are so horrible that I’m able to laugh at it then I’ve been entertained.  If I find a movie entertaining then I’ll recommend it.  The flip side of this is the movies that many fans find entertaining and “cool” which bore the hell out of me.  If I’m having a hard time staying awake then I’m going to hate your film regardless of how innovative your take on vampires may be (George Romero’s Martin)!  If you disagree with one of my reviews or just think that I’m an idiot (which I am most of the time) that is cool with me.  Like the old saying goes opinions are like, well you know what I mean.  In the end we are all fans who enjoy a good and sometimes bad horror film.
